Indiana Board of Nursing 2026: License Verification & Renewal

Independent Indiana nursing-license guide reviewed against official PLA sources on July 20, 2026.
Indiana PLA • MyLicense One • RN • LPN • APRN • NLC

Verify an Indiana Nurse—or Take the Correct 2026 Renewal Route

Indiana’s renewal calendar is easy to misread because RN and LPN licenses do not expire in the same year. In 2026, the standard LPN cycle ends October 31; regular RN licenses follow the odd-year cycle and normally expire October 31, 2027.

This guide separates free public verification from private MyLicense One actions and explains renewal fees, compact charges, application tracking, endorsement verification, fingerprints, APRN education and nursing-program checks.

2026 decision

LPN: verify the October 31, 2026 expiration and renew when the action opens. RN: check the live record before paying—ordinary RN renewal is generally not due until October 31, 2027.

Quick answers

Indiana nursing facts to check before renewing or applying

2026 LPN deadline October 31 Even-numbered-year cycle.
Regular RN cycle October 31, 2027 Odd-numbered-year cycle.
RN/LPN renewal $50 Before the expiration deadline.
RN/LPN CEUs None For ordinary renewal.
Compact fee $25 Application or renewal fee.
PLA phone 317-232-2960 Mon–Fri, 8:00–4:30 ET.

Do not renew the wrong credential: Indiana LPN licenses expire in even-numbered years and RN licenses in odd-numbered years. A nurse with an expired RN, APRN or compact record may still see an action in 2026, but that is different from the normal RN cycle.

FREE

Indiana provides real-time public verification

Free Search & Verify is the original state source and updates as licensing records change.

LPN

2026 is the standard LPN renewal year

LPN licenses expire October 31 of every even-numbered year, regardless of the original issue date.

RN

Standard RN renewal is an odd-year task

RN licenses expire October 31 of every odd-numbered year, regardless of the original issue date.

90D

The renewal window is limited

Indiana states that an RN or LPN renewal cycle opens no later than 90 days before expiration.

1Y

Incomplete applications can be abandoned

If all requirements are not supplied within one year after filing, the application is abandoned and a later filing is treated as new.

10D

Documents are reviewed in received order

PLA generally advises allowing about 10 business days for review, with additional mailing time for paper documents.

Primary search intent

How to verify an Indiana nursing license

Use the free Indiana Professional Licensing Agency search for a current public record. Use a paid printable search or certified digital verification only when an employer, school or another licensing board specifically requires that document.

1

Open Indiana Free Search & Verify

Use the official MyLicense verification system rather than a commercial directory or an old license card.

Open Official License Search
2

Select Nursing Board or enter the license number

A complete license number is usually the fastest route. When searching by name, use the current legal spelling and avoid unnecessary filters.

3

Match the exact credential

Confirm whether the result is RN, LPN, Nurse Midwife, APRN Prescriptive Authority, Compact RN or another nursing-related record.

4

Read status and expiration separately

A matching name or license number is not enough. Confirm the status is suitable for practice and that the expiration date has not passed.

5

Check discipline when required

Use the PLA discipline-search route for formal actions and read the complete order rather than relying on a short status description.

6

Print or save a dated result

Record the official source, search date, profession, license number, status and expiration for credentialing documentation.

License renewal

Indiana LPN and RN renewal rules for 2026

The first step is identifying the license type. In the standard cycle, LPN renewal is a 2026 task; RN renewal is normally a 2027 task. Both use MyLicense One and have a published $50 renewal fee.

Credential Normal expiration pattern 2026 action Ordinary renewal fee
Licensed Practical Nurse October 31 of every even-numbered year. Renew by October 31, 2026 when the MyLicense One action opens. $50.
Registered Nurse October 31 of every odd-numbered year. Ordinary active RN renewal is generally not due; verify the record for an expired or special-status action. $50.
Indiana Compact LPN Follows the LPN primary-license cycle. Renew the LPN and maintain compact status through the available renewal action. $50 plus published $25 compact renewal.
Indiana Compact RN Follows the RN primary-license cycle. Normally not due until the odd-year cycle unless the record is expired or requires another action. $50 plus published $25 compact renewal.
APRN Prescriptive Authority October 31 of every odd-numbered year for an Indiana RN-based credential. Current 2026 audit notices may apply, but the standard renewal cycle is tied to the odd year. $10.

No RN/LPN CEU requirement: Indiana does not require continuing-education units for ordinary RN or LPN renewal. This does not remove the separate education requirements for APRN prescriptive authority.

1

Verify the license and expiration first

Confirm whether the record is LPN, RN, Compact LPN, Compact RN, Nurse Midwife or APRN before selecting a renewal action.

Verify License and Expiration
2

Wait for the appropriate renewal action

Indiana states the cycle opens no later than 90 days before expiration. Use the action shown beside the existing license instead of filing a new application.

3

Sign in through Access Indiana

Open the existing MyLicense One account and confirm that the license is correctly linked.

Open MyLicense One
4

Review email, address and renewal answers

Renewal notifications go to the email address on file. Positive responses may require a detailed statement and supporting documents.

5

Renew credentials in the correct order

For a linked advanced-practice profile, renew the primary RN first, followed by APRN, CSR Prescriptive Authority and other dependent credentials.

6

Pay, save the receipt and recheck verification

Indiana asks users to allow up to one business day for the emailed payment receipt. Confirm the updated public license record after processing.

Expired-license route

Expired for less than three years Renew online through MyLicense One. The published expired RN/LPN total is $100, consisting of the $50 fee and $50 penalty.
Expired for three years or more Use the reinstatement application. The published RN/LPN reinstatement fee is $100.
No active license in another state For an RN/LPN license expired three years or more, the Board may schedule a personal appearance.
Compact status changed after moving Report the change in primary state of residence instead of attempting an incorrect ordinary renewal.
Advanced-practice renewal

Indiana APRN prescriptive-authority CE and audit rules

APRN prescriptive authority is different from ordinary RN or LPN renewal. The practitioner must complete qualifying education and may be selected for an Indiana Board audit.

Required CE 30 hours During a full renewal period.
Pharmacology 8 hours Included in the 30 hours.
Certificate retention 3 years From the renewal date.
Audit sample Up to 10% Of eligible licensees.
APRN renewal $10 Prescriptive authority.
Current audit 2026 Notices sent January 5.
APRN situation Education requirement Additional action
Full renewal period 30 contact hours, including at least 8 pharmacology hours. Retain certificates and maintain the required collaborative-practice documentation.
Prescriptive authority held less than 12 months No CE required for that shortened initial period. Complete all other renewal requirements.
Held at least 12 but less than 24 months 15 hours, including at least 4 pharmacology hours. Hours must be completed after authority was granted and before expiration.
No current Indiana collaborator CE still applies. The license may renew as Current/Not Practicing; prescriptive authority cannot be practised in that status.
Expired three years or more 30 recent hours within the preceding 24 months, including 8 pharmacology hours. Submit a signed collaborative-practice agreement with an Indiana licensed practitioner.

The 2026 APRN audit covers the previous licensure period of November 1, 2023 through October 31, 2025 for selected active licensees with a current October 31, 2027 expiration.

CE provider is an accepted national sponsor.
Total qualifying hours reach the required amount.
Pharmacology hours are clearly identified.
Certificates show name, sponsor, program and date.
Collaborative agreements are current and retained.
Sworn compliance statements are prepared if audited.
Documents are not uploaded repeatedly.
Primary RN authority remains active.

Track an Indiana nursing application in MyLicense One

MyLicense One shows submitted applications, action items, invoices and missing documentation. Staff cannot see an application that has not been submitted, so resolve all red errors before requesting review.

1

Sign in through your own Access Indiana account

Accounts cannot be shared. One email and one person record are permanently linked to each MyLicense One profile.

Open MyLicense One
2

Open Submitted Application Activity

Select the exact examination, endorsement, compact, temporary-permit, APRN or reinstatement application.

3

Read every checklist and action item

Look for fingerprint results, license verification, Certificate of Completion, citizenship documents, positive-response records or an issuance invoice.

4

Confirm who must submit the missing item

A school, Nursys, another board, IdentoGO or the applicant may have a different submission responsibility.

5

Upload additional documents through the action item

Use the Upload Additional Documentation action rather than emailing duplicate files to several addresses.

6

Allow the normal review period

PLA generally advises allowing about 10 business days for review after receipt and an additional 10 business days for mailed documents.

Portal issue What it usually means Correct action
Red dot or required-field error A section or list entry is incomplete. Open every menu section and every education, license or employment entry.

Out-of-state applicants

Indiana RN or LPN licensure by endorsement

An endorsement applicant must hold an active nursing license in at least one U.S. state or territory. If no U.S. license is active, renew one before filing the Indiana endorsement application.

1

Confirm endorsement is the correct method

Use endorsement when you already hold an active U.S. RN or LPN license. Use examination when Indiana will be the initial U.S. licensing jurisdiction.

2

Submit the $50 Indiana application first

Apply through MyLicense One before scheduling the required criminal-background check.

Start Endorsement Application
3

Choose single-state, compact and temporary options

The published compact add-on is $25 and the optional temporary-permit fee is $10. Select only options for which you qualify.

4

Order verification from every jurisdiction

Indiana requires verification from every state, territory and country where you hold or have held a health-profession license, active or inactive.

Nursys Endorsement Verification
5

Verify all related health credentials

This can include CNA, EMT, LPN when applying as RN and other regulated health licenses—not only the primary nursing license.

6

Complete fingerprints and supporting documents

Provide name-change documents, positive-response explanations, education records and immigration/work-authorization documents when applicable.

QuickConfirm, Nursys E-Notify and Speed Memo are not accepted as endorsement verification. Use the Nurse License Verification for Endorsement option.

If the original licensing state does not verify nursing education, Indiana may require an official transcript from the nursing program.

Nurse Licensure Compact

Indiana compact license and primary-residence rules

A multistate RN or LPN license is based on the nurse’s primary state of legal residence. Indiana applicants must provide acceptable evidence that Indiana is the primary state when requesting Indiana compact authority.

DL

Indiana driver’s license

An Indiana driver’s license showing the home address is listed as acceptable PSOR evidence.

W2

W-2 or military form

A W-2 or military Form 2058 declaring the primary state can be used.

VOTE

Voter registration

A voter-registration card with the home address is an accepted residency document.

TAX

Federal tax return

A federal income-tax return identifying the state of residence is another listed route.

Your situation Correct action Expected license effect
Indiana is your primary state Apply for or maintain Indiana compact authority through MyLicense One. Indiana may issue the qualifying multistate RN or LPN license.
Another compact state is your primary state Maintain the home-state multistate license. Practise in Indiana under the valid compact privilege rather than obtaining another multistate license.
Moving out of Indiana Report the PSOR change to the Nursing Board. The multistate portion of the Indiana license is deactivated as required.
Moving back to Indiana Request reactivation and submit Indiana PSOR proof. Eligible inactive compact authority can be reviewed for reactivation.
APRN using an out-of-state compact RN Apply for or maintain APRN–Compact RN authority. The APRN credential follows the prerequisite compact RN expiration.

A nurse may hold only one multistate license. Do not file a second compact application merely because you work in Indiana.

PSOR update wording:
“I hold Indiana license number _____. My primary state of residence changed from _____ to _____ on _____. I am attaching _____ as residency evidence and request the appropriate compact-license update.”
Criminal-background check

Indiana nursing fingerprint steps and mistakes to avoid

Initial nursing applicants complete a national criminal-history background check at their own cost. The timing matters: fingerprints submitted before PLA officially receives the application are not accepted for that application.

1

Submit the nursing application first

Do not schedule the Board-directed background check before the MyLicense One application is filed.

2

Wait for PLA’s application-received email

The email provides the official received date and the service code linked to the license type.

3

Schedule through IdentoGO

Use the supplied service code. Applicants without internet access may call IdentoGO at 877-472-6917.

Open Official CBC Instructions
4

Bring acceptable identification

Bring a valid driver’s license, state ID or passport. Applicants without those documents may need both a birth certificate and Social Security card.

5

Keep the appointment confirmation

Retain the service code, appointment date, payment proof and confirmation number until the application is complete.

6

Respond to any criminal-history request

Upload the requested personal statement, court records, disposition, police report or other documents through the MyLicense One action item.

Fingerprints completed before the application-received date are invalid for this process and must be repeated. Criminal-background checks are not required for ordinary renewal or reinstatement applications.

Education verification

Verify an Indiana nursing education program

The Indiana Board accredits in-state prelicensure programs preparing students for initial RN or LPN licensure. It does not review or accredit RN-to-BSN or graduate-level nursing programs.

1

Open the facility version of Free Search & Verify

Select Nursing Board from the Profession menu and search by the school code or facility name.

Search Approved Nursing Programs
2

Match the exact school and campus

Use the school code where available. A college system can operate multiple campuses or program types.

3

Confirm RN or LPN prelicensure approval

Do not interpret Board approval of one program as approval of every nursing credential offered by the institution.

4

Review available annual and NCLEX reports

Compare several years, first-time candidate counts and the program’s pass-rate pattern.

Open Nursing Education Reports
5

Check institutional accreditation separately

State Board accreditation and regional, institutional or national nursing accreditation are different checks.

6

Get financial and clinical terms in writing

Confirm tuition, fees, refund terms, transfer policy, clinical placements, graduation requirements and NCLEX preparation before enrolling.

A program with three or more consecutive years of first-time graduate pass rates below the Board’s required benchmark must present and implement a corrective-action plan. Continuing failure can ultimately place accreditation at risk.

Exact campus and school code match.
Program is RN or LPN prelicensure.
Current Board status was checked.
Several NCLEX years were compared.
Testing volume was considered.
Outside accreditation was verified.
Clinical placement is documented.
Total cost and refund policy are clear.

PLA asks users to capture the error plus every flagged section and the steps already attempted.

SCAM

Verify threatening calls

Indiana has warned nurses about vishing calls claiming investigations or discipline. Confirm through PLA before paying or disclosing information.

Updating the Access Indiana profile does not automatically change the legal name displayed on a professional license. Use the license action and submit the required legal-name documentation.
